What exactly is it that drives us? What makes the feeling of jumping grow and the language of the heart become louder? It's been years since I've seen a film that inspired and moved me. Sometimes we see something and it leaves a mark, conveys a feeling or a longing. This film told of a true story of a young woman with a dream. She dreamed of a path through the desert of Australia. And the destination was the sea, the water after the drought. A tale of adventure, courage and dreams. Full of passion and hope.
At that time I already thought - one day I want to go to Australia and travel this country. Turn what I saw into my own experiences. And here I am. At the sea - it accompanies me every day. And slowly it is time to explore the vastness of the country.
I have the feeling to have arrived. And it is time to leave again. Not for long. But out of the city.
It was only a few days that I was on the road. Packed the most necessary, jumped into a van and off to the south. I had almost forgotten how much I felt at home in the van. The hum of the engine, the passing landscapes. My childhood was marked by traveling in a VW bus. And here I was again. Only on the other side of the world.
Heading south first - none of the backpackers go south at this time of year. Most travel to the north. After the summer. Not for me this time. I wanted to see the forests and the sea in the south of Western Australia.
To our surprise, two emus scampered across the road as the sun made its way between the trees, bathing the eucalypt forest in golden light. We spent the night at a winery near Denmark. The mist between the rows of vines in the morning and the soft light promised sunshine for the day. And there it was at last. The sea, the crystal clear water, that turquoise and the spray of the waves. The water and the sand seemed to melt into the distance. A few seagulls joined us, hoping to get a snack. Right next to us, huge rocks rise from the sand. Èlephant Rocks` is exactly the right name for these gray giants.
A little to the east is the city of Albany.
South of the city stretches a peninsula that protects the harbor and historically made Albany an important port in Australia. The headland thus has two sides that can be visited. A wonderful hike on the back of this particular island was probably the highlight of our little trip. Every step led to a different perspective and new little beeches. Breathtaking and hard to describe.
On the way to Margaret River, along the hilly road through beautiful forests, it was not uncommon to smell the smoky smell of fire through the open windows, in exchange for the music of the road trip playlist that resounded loudly through the windows.
About halfway there, we stopped in a forest. A forest of 500 year old trees. Giant Trees, which stand there like personalities of their own and with incredible majästätic. Without a doubt - they communicate with each other.
In this forest we spent the night before going back to the city.
I love my life in the city, where I've been for more than 3 months now. And in the same way, it was a rest to go into nature and make the stories about the beaches and colors my experiences.
Nevertheless, the longing for the vastness is not satisfied and I know that I will stay here for a longer time to fulfill the dream that was awakened in me by the film 'Tracks'.
